Joyce Lee Johnson

Long time Gilmer resident, Joyce Johnson, passed away on July 13, 2017 in Dallas, TX. She was born on October 31, 1927 in Paintsville, KY to Bradley and Zilphia Stapleton. She was preceded in death in 1998 by her husband, W.R. Johnson, and later by her daughter, Tanya Gill Dorethy.
She is survived by her sister, Mary French, and Mary’s husband Phil, of Goodrich, Michigan; sons John Gill of Henderson, TX; David Gill of Coppell, TX; and daughter Zilphia Crump and spouse, Ken, of Richardson, TX.
She had seven grandchildren, J.T. Gill and spouse, Debbie, of Henderson, TX; Adrienna Dinger and spouse, Shane, of Whitehouse, TX; Michael Gill and spouse, Pam, of Coppell, TX; Sarah Gill and Mason Gill of Coppell, TX; Jason Crump of Allen, TX; Jeff Crump of Richardson, TX.
She was also survived by eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Joyce was a “pink lady” at the Gilmer Hospital for many years. After the hospital closed, she continued serving at a local nursing home. She was a member of the DAR and Eastern Star. She also spent many evenings with her dear friends at the senior citizen’s dances throughout the area.
A memorial service will be held in Gilmer at 2:00 p.m on July 22, 2017 in the chapel at Croley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Pritchett. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
