Joyce Laquita Cummings

Joyce Laquita Cummings, 93 years old, was born August 30, 1930, in the Pine community of Camp County, Texas to John Hiller Pilgrim and Grace Dee Alexander Pilgrim.

She is survived by one sister, Elizabeth Bullard, daughter, Kim Healy, son, Tony Wilson, and wife Nina, all of Longview. Grandchildren include Darcie and Robert Lee, Kelsey Daniels, Emily and Chris Bowdoin, Amy and Ryan Berger, Aaron Wilson, Joe and Amanda Woodard, Amber and John Hernandez, numerous great grandchildren, and close friend, Linda Sutton. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Lester Cummings.

Laquita, or "Kitta" as many called her, led a full and productive life. Having survived cancer at 70, she began a stoic and enduring fight again at 90. She was an inspiration and encourager to so many well before her own battle was fought. She never knew a stranger and always had a smile for them. Being selfless in so many ways, she always inspired hope to others and reminded them of how much God loved them. She was a faithful member of Woodland Hills Baptist Church of Longview, where she probably knew and remembered more names in the congregation than the pastor did. Her strong Christian faith had led her through trials and hardships in her life and an unwavering dedication to her family and devotion to Jesus till the very end. Mom, grandmother, Aunt Kitta, we love you. Go have that waltz with Lester on those golden streets.

A celebration of life service will be held on December 2, 2023, at Woodland Hills Baptist Church, 2105 East Loop 281, Longview, Texas. The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m., with a service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Woodland Hills Christian Academy.
