Gladewater ~ Services for Joseph Howard Word, 82, of Gladewater, Texas, will be held at Croley Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, May 28, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend John Lee Usery and Reverend Kenny- Joe Word officiating. Interment will follow at Rock Springs Cemetery. Mr. Word passed in his home on Monday, May 25, 2015. Joseph Howard Word was born to Jewel Hutson and Omie Marylee Word on January, 31, 1933, in Gladewater. He married his sweetheart, Brenda Word and worked as a heavy equipment operator for more than 50 years until he retired. He further served the community as sexton of Rock Springs Cemetery. Those left behind to cherish his memory is his wife of 56 years, Brenda; sons, Joseph "Joey" Michael Word, Jeffrey Howard Word, and Herman Leon Word; daughter, Peggy Ann Black; sisters, Ruthey Hatch and Virginia Smith; grandchildren, Jodie Word Richter, Dennis Smith, Jr., Kenny-Joe Word, Melissa Armstrong, Destiney Marie Word, and Tommy Word and 8 great- grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents. Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Dixon, Mike Trotter, Bryan Kelly, Charlie Walker, Russ Roebuck, Jason Trotter, Ricky McGee and Mike Carrell. Honorary pallbearers are Dean Snyder, Rex Copeland, Les Bassham, Bill Mitchell, Jr., Charles Beaird, Jimmy Wright, Dale McKinnon, and Kyle McKinnon. The family would like to convey their deepest gratitude to Lucinda "Cindy" Moore, Peggy Stanling, and Maria and Juan Vinceti for the excellent care given to "Pappaw" during the past few years. Visitation will be at Croley Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 27, 2015, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
