John – also known as John Paul or JP to his friends – departed this earth the evening of Thursday, September 30, 2021 from complications of a COVID infection. He was born October 19, 1977 and lived an abundantly blessed life. He is survived by his wife of almost 14 years, Jennifer Susan Thompson, and their son, Mack McDaniel Thompson; his parents, Michael and Janet Thompson; his sister Jenye Ahrens and her husband, Chris, and son, Jedidiah; maternal grandfather, John Paul Thompson; and many extended family members. He is preceded to Heaven by his birth father, Kenneth Buck, and maternal grandmother, Tedye Thompson.
John worked as a computer technician/administrator for almost 25 years. He had also served as a volunteer firefighter for the Bettie VFD, and as a lay pastor and later as Deacon at his churches. For the last 4 years, he sent out a Daily Devotional via text message and through Telegram. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, expanding his computer skills and knowledge, and helping people. John was the kind of man that would stop to help someone change a tire or take them to get gas, and in the process, he would manage to unobtrusively share the Gospel with that person. He directly and indirectly changed lives, and he attributed everything to God. John’s love for God was evident in everything he did.
