Funeral service for John M. Moore, 89, of Hawkins will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 29, 2016, in Hawkins ISD Auditorium in Hawkins, TX with Gaylon Embrey officiating and speakers, Dr. Bill Holmes and Thomas Lee Little. Interment will be in Hawkins Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Croley Funeral Home in Hawkins. Mr. Moore passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2016, in Mineola. Mr. Moore was born March 12, 1927 in Winnsboro, TX to James Hood and Willie E. Moore. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps., and was stationed at Parris Island, SC, where he became an expert marksman. World War II ended and many marines were discharged, but because he was an expert marksman, he received orders to report to the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, to be a weapons trainer for the midshipmen. After an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps., he attended Paris Junior College, where he played football, and then attended East Texas Teachers" College. Upon completion of his formal education, he joined the United States Air Force as a commissioned officer and was stationed at Gray Air Force Base and later at Sandia Air Force Base in Albuquerque, NM. He was a teacher, coach and high school principal for 35 years. Survivors include wife, Jane Moore of Hawkins; children, Melanie Pool and husband, Mark of El Campo, John T. Moore and wife, Julie of Lindale, Melissa Gattis and husband, Kevin of Hawkins, Martin Moore and wife, Kelly of Hawkins; 11 grandchildren; brother-in-law, Tom Little and wife, Susan of Dallas. Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Joe Dan Moore, Herschel Moore, Randall Moore; one sister, Sara Jo Fargason; father-in-law, T.C. Little; mother-in-law, Othell Little. Pallbearers will be Ryan Gattis, John Michael Gattis, Jacob Moore, Caleb Moore, Blake Moore, Kevin Edmonson and Josh Stinson. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 28, 2016 at the Hawkins ISD Auditorium in Hawkins, TX.
