John Gaston Dunn

John Gaston Dunn, of Gladewater, passed away peacefully at home on December 26, 2023. He was born May 21, 1935 in Flagg, Texas to the late John Leonial Dunn and Maggie Jo Ross.

He is preceded in death by his parents, first wife Martha Jean Dunn, and second wife Faye Dell Pruett Dunn.

He grew up in New Mexico. He went to school in a one room schoolhouse. His family moved to Littlefield, Texas where he completed high school and joined the Army and served three years as a combat engineer. He left the military for a brief time then joined the Air Force where he served for 19 years. He attended Texas State Technical College where he pursued his love for carpentry and wood-working. He served many roles at TSTC, including teaching cabinetry skills in a

pre-release prison program. He retired as Campus Facility Manager after 23 years.

After the passing of his wife Martha Jean, he met and married Faye P. Gilley of Gladewater, Texas. In retirement they

traveled, the two served for 17 years ministering around the East Texas area and state as “Dunn For Him”. Singing and ministering was their joy and passion. John served as minister of music for 30 years in many churches where he lived. John and Faye were members of the First Baptist Church of Gladewater and were very active in various programs and sang in the church choir until failing health kept them home.

John is survived by a brother, Harley Eugene Dunn and wife Donna, in Asheville, NC; Sister-in-law, Violet L. Melton,

children, son, Glynn (Linda) Dunn; son, Kenneth Dunn; daughter, Sherrie Dunn; daughter, Deb Bartmess; and

survived by eight Grandchildren, and fourteen Great-grandchildren.

Friends and family are welcome for burial with full military honors at Gladewater Memorial Park Cemetery on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at 2:00PM.
