Joe Rex Loyd

Graveside services for Mr. Joe Rex Loyd, 86, of Big Sandy will be held on Sunday, November 29, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chilton Cemetery in Big Sandy with Minister H.L. Shirey officiating under the direction of Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater. Mr. Loyd passed away, Thursday, November 26, 2015 in Tyler. Mr. Loyd was born May 16, 1929 in Big Sandy, Texas to the late Joe David Loyd and Flora Elvira Perdue. Mr. Loyd was a member of the Church of Christ. He served as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War. Mr. Loyd was a retired Chief Purser having served on the USS Savannah; the only commissioned nuclear cruise ship as well as numerous other ships. Joe had traveled the world, visiting all of the continents at least once. He enjoyed traveling, farming, woodworking and fast cars in his younger years. Joe was always up for a challenge no matter what it was. He will be missed by all the family and friends he leaves behind. He is survived by his daughter Vanessa Sotomayer; nieces Margaret Page and Martha Pace; great nieces and nephews Larry Walls and wife Brigid, Don Walls and wife Lynda, Deborah McWhirter and husband Don, Jerry Page, Richard Page and Katherine Hicks and husband Terry. Mr. Loyd was preceded in death by his parents, four siblings and a niece Betty Moody Walls. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater.
