Gladewater -- Graveside services for J.O. "Buddy" Smith, 87, of Longview, will be held on Friday, April 4, 2014, at 2 P.M. at Rock Springs Cemetery with Pastor Tim Smith officiating.
Born on January 26, 1927, in Gladewater, Texas, he died on Monday, March 31, 2014. He was a World War II United States Army veteran. He owned and operated Buddy"s Truck service in Longview for years. He was a member of the East Mountain Baptist Church.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Darrell Giles of Longview; one sister, Hazel Pullen of Union Grove; one brother, David Smith of Gladewater; five grandchildren, Tonia Avila of Ft. Worth; Danny Keeton of Sachse; Tracy Hellen of White Oak; Brent Deteau of Springtown; and Jeff Harper of Longview; five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Thelma Smith; two daughters, Sarah Wilhelm and Kathleen Deteau; parents, John M. and Lena Alta Smith; two sisters, Martha Ann Smith and Louise Madden; four brothers, James Glen Smith, Dean Smith, Wayne Smith, and James "Bill" Smith.
A special thanks to his friend and buddy, Susan, at Summer Meadows Rehab.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. on Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater.
