Jimmy Charles Owens, born on March 22, 1948 in Pittsburg, Texas, passed away at age 70 on January 28, 2019 in Front Royal, Virginia. He graduated with a Master's Degree in Computer Science from Stephen F. Austin State University. A devoted patriot, he dedicated 23 years working for the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency as a Cartographer until retiring in 2018. Jimmy was the loving husband of Noemi Owens. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Roland Owens; his son, Oscar Owens; brothers, Larry Owens and Billy Joe Owens; and sister, Carolyn McCord. Jimmy is survived by his daughters, Marlene Newton, Norma Hernandez, Patricia Hogaboam, and Julie Costin; brother, Kenneth Owens; and grandchildren, Daniel Panuco, Naomi Panuco, Oscar Hernandez, Dana Hernandez, Samuel Costin, Katherine Costin, Sarah Costin, Derek Hogaboam, and Curtis Hogaboam. Jimmy was known for his generosity, love of cooking, and love of nature. Friends and family members may attend the visitation on Thursday, January 31 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Croley Funeral Home, 305 West Harrison Street, Gilmer, Texas. A funeral service will take place on Friday, February 1 at 1:00 p.m. at Lone Star Baptist Church, 643 N Wildrose Street, Lone Star, Texas, 75668. Burial will follow at Harris Chapel Cemetery in Hughes Springs.
