Gladewater -- Memorial services for Jimmy Bowden, 64, of Gilmer, will be held on Thursday, September, 20, 2012, at 2 P.M. at Croley Funeral Home Chapel with Larry W. Osborne officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater. Born on October 8, 1947, in Waco, Texas, to Clifford and Mildred Bowden, he died on Monday, September 17, 2012. A standout football player for the Gladewater Bears, he was a 1965 graduate of Gladewater High School and attended Kilgore College and East Texas State University on football scholarships. He was an entertainer in the radio industry. He especially enjoyed acting and performing. In 1972, he received a meritorious award from the American College Theatre Festival. His acting credits included Of Mice and Men, Any Given Sunday, Broken Promises, Sittin On The Woodbine, and appearances in the original Dallas series. He has performed with Willie Nelson, Billy Joe Shaver, Emmy Lou Harris, Kris Kristofferson, B.W. Stevenson, and many others. He is survived by his wife, Teresa Monroe Bowden of Gilmer; daughter, Annabelle Lee Bowden of Dallas; sons, Denver James Bowden of Dallas; Bentley Hugh Bowden of Dallas; grandson, Christian Lee Bowden of Dallas; mother, Mildred Bowden Jones of Gladewater; brother and sister-in-law, Hugh and Kathy Bowden of Gladewater; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Bowden, and grandparents, J.W. and Rebecca Beavers. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
