Jessie William Prather passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at his home after a brief illness. He was 90 years old. He was the beloved husband for 64 years of the late Robbie Louise Cain Prather and the father of Jessica Prather Rareshide (husband, Lanaux) and the late Chester Lane Prather. He is survived by six grandchildren: Steve Prather, Stacie Prather Mazur, Sandra Prather, Michelle Prather, Tracie Prather, and Travis Lehman. He was the brother of Irene Prather Farrar and son of the late Thomas Jefferson Prather and Nellie Featherstone Prather. A resident of Plaquemines Parish for 63 years, he was born in Wardville, Oklahoma, on July 16, 1922 and lived for many years in Kilgore, Texas. Mr. Prather served in the United States Army during World War II and in the Korean Conflict. He worked for Gulf Oil Company for thirty-five years and was a fouding member of the Empire Baptist Church, serving there for twenty-five years as a Deacon. Mr. Prather was an avid gardener. In his retirement, he enjoyed painting and was a past president of the Plaquemines Parish Art Guild. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation on Saturday, August 11, 2012, from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, Louisiana. A Prayer Service will then be conducted at 12:00 P.M. On Tuesday, August 14, 2012, a visitation and graveside service will be held from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. at Kilgore City Cemetery, Kilgore, Texas. Local arrangements are being handled by Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater.
