Jerry Wayne Dixon, Sr.

Jerry Wayne Dixon, Sr., 84, of Gilmer, Texas, was born on January 3, 1937, in Kerens, Texas, to the late Richard Joseph Dixon and Eleanor (Elena) Georgia Green Dixon. He passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2021, in Gilmer, Texas.
His wife, Judy, survives Mr. Dixon. Also surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy Hill and Kurt, Darla Miller and Tim; son, Richard Dixon and Theresa; son-in-law, Ben Dawson and his wife, Amanda; sister, Mary Jo Coulter; grandchildren, Nikki Sims and husband, Josh, Curt Hill and wife, Deisi, Courtney Marion and husband, Adam, Brandon Miller and wife, Madi, Justin Miller, Kaylee Miller, Brittany Miller, Benjamin Dawson, Brooklyn Fuller and husband, Coltin, and Dylan Dawson; great-grandchildren, Kaden, Allie, Easton, and Evie Sims, Jaxon and Tristan Marion, Vince and Elena Hill, and two on the way.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Phyllis Kay Bryant Dixon; his children, Jerry Wayne Dixon, Jr., Sandy Dixon Dawson; grandchildren, Sarah Hill and Tyler Scott Miller; and brothers, Harold Dixon, Sr., and Dan Dixon.
Mr. Dixon was a proud veteran of the US Navy, where he served as a fireman. Upon his discharge, he applied to be a civilian fireman but was one inch too short according to that era's standards. He was a tireless, hard worker who made every sacrifice to meet his family's needs. His occupations include self-employed dairyman and pipe inspector for Lone Star Steel- working both jobs at the same time for many years. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in various capacities, including as the Sunday School President. One of Jerry's greatest passions was Family History, and he spent countless hours searching for genealogy after his retirement. He enjoyed telling his family of their ancestors, and he went to the Temple as often as his health permitted to seal up his family for time and eternity. He loved the Savior, Jesus Christ, and strived to emulate Him as he quietly helped many people in need over the years. He loved his children and adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and looked for any opportunity for them to spend time with him.
A Memorial Service for Jerry Dixon will be at 2 pm, Thursday, March 11, 2021, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Gilmer, with Bishop Dennis Means officiating.
