Jerry Seymour Porter

GILMER – Services for Jerry Seymour Porter, 69, of Gilmer will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home Chapel in Gilmer with Bro. Larry Lansdale officiating. Interment will be in Grice Cemetery in Upshur County. Arrangements are under the direction of Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home in Gilmer. Mr. Porter passed away Friday, June 23, 2017 at his residence.

Mr. Porter was born August 21, 1947 in San Andreas, CA to Russell Francis and Estel Lester Melton Porter. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, retired welder, had lived in Upshur County for 36 years and was a member of the Baptist faith. He also, loved to fish and hunt, being with his family and playing scratch offs.
He is survived by his sons, Jerry J. Porter and wife, Garlynda, Terry S. Porter and wife, Jena and Kirby Porter and wife, Crystal; daughters, Nedra L. Porter Henson and husband, Alan and Sandra L. Porter Anderson and husband, Tray; brother, Bennie Melton Jr.; sister, Jeanette Bowden; grandchildren, Jalen, Landry, Morgan Henson; Justin Taylor; Benjamin, Madelaine, Lawson, Abagail Anderson; Tristen Porter; Brandon Taylor, Caleb Porter, Amanda Hayden and Rubye Porter; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Porter is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Louise Porter; parents, brothers, Terry F. Porter and Henry R. Porter; sister, Rita G. Gordy and grandchild, Sarah Elizabeth Porter.

Pallbearers will be Jerry J. Porter, Terry S. Porter, Kirby Porter, Tray Anderson, Alan Henson, Johnny Porter and John Gordy.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home in Gilmer.
