Jean Rowe

Jean Rowe, 90, went to be with the Lord Friday, December 16, 2022. She was born January 17, 1932, in Cameron, TX to Clarence & Verna Colburn. She graduated valedictorian from Cameron High School in 1950. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1952 from North Texas State Teachers College in Denton, TX (now University of North Texas). She married Jimmy Rowe on August 24, 1952, at Yarrellton Baptist Church (near Cameron, TX). They lived in Arlington, TX for one year where Jean taught at Arlington High School while Jimmy finished his degree.

They came to Gladewater in August 1953. Jean worked with Jimmy in their print shop. Jean received her master’s degree from Texas A&M University in 1973.  She taught for 26 years for Gladewater ISD, was a life member of TSTA, AARP, and Science Teachers Association of Texas. In her spare time, she enjoyed genealogy research of family.   

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Jimmy Rowe.

Jean is survived by a brother Wallace Colburn & wife, Jerry, of Lubbock, TX, five sons: Jay Rowe & wife, Martha, of Gladewater, TX, Jeff Rowe & wife, Karen, of Longview, TX, Jed Rowe of Pittsburg, TX, Jody Rowe of St. Louis, MO and Jon Rowe & wife, Cindy, of Gladewater, TX. Fourteen Grandchildren: Josh Rowe & wife, Katherine, Jeremy Rowe, Ben Rowe & wife, Melissa, Jacob Rowe & wife, Kayla, Lance Rowe, Linsey Delaney & husband, Staten, Luke Rowe & wife, Britni, Aaron Rogers & wife, Mary, Jana Rowe & fiancée, David By, Jared Rowe, Mike Rowe, Alyssa Elbert & husband, Daniel, Leslie Finnegan & husband, Michael and Rebecca Rowe. Seventeen Great Grand Children Jaidyn Rowe, Aspen Rowe, Espe Gonzales, Maya Rowe, Lexi Rowe, Hayden Rowe, Kerstin Dean, Taylor Rowe, Landon Rowe, Reed, Ryder & Renn Delaney, Austin Rowe and Lennox & Maelyn Rogers, Eva Elbert and Macy Finnegan, Nieces: Kelli Mancuso, Jolyn Wilkins & Gay Smitha.

The family will receive friends on Monday, December 19, 2022, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater. On Tuesday, December 20, 2022 her Celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church in Gladewater.
