Jan Demmary McCurry, 85, of Kaufman, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, in Kaufman, Texas. Jan was born on May 9, 1937, in Monroe, LA, to the late Gene and Harriett Hameister Demmary.
She was a Safeco Underwriter and worked for the First National Bank in Dallas for many years. Jan loved riding around with G.A., taking in the countryside. She also loved going to McDonald's to drink coffee and chat.
You could catch her crocheting five to ten potholders a week so the new visitor bags at church would not run out, crocheting hats for cancer patients, and socks and scarves for her family and friends. She loved geneology and spent many hours at the library researching and gathered a copious amount of information. Hearing about both her granddaughter's many accomplishments made her day. A telephone call with her Sister Gay just to catch up brightened her day and warmed her heart. She also loved being called Auntie Jan. Keeping up with her great-grandchildren, great-nieces, and nephews was fun for her. She always wanted to share their stories.
Jan is survived by her son, Frederick Butler, and Wife, Dee Ann of Dallas; Daughters, Gay Shafer and Husband Bret of Kaufman and Sheri Gillen and Husband James of Gilmer; Sister, Gay Boeneke and Husband Burton of Prairieville, LA; Grandchildren Tiffany Forsyth and Husband Kevin and Aubri Gillen; Great-Grandchildren Keaton Forsyth and Wife Sarah, Bailey, Clowey, Kennedy, and Remii Forsyth; Niece Gay Thackrey; Nephew William Boeneke; and numerous Great Nieces and Nephews. Jan is preceded in death by her Husband, G.A. McCurry, and her Parents.
Funeral service for Ms. McCurry will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at the chapel of Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer with James S. Gillen officiating, interment to follow at Mattinburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:00 PM.
