James Sydney Person

James Sydney Person was born in Longview on October 30, 1930; to a pioneer family the late Frank and Fannie Hill Person. He passed away peacefully on October 4, 2018 at his home in Longview. He is survived by his wife Linda who will miss him greatly.

He graduated from Longview High School and the University of Texas at Austin. Being very passionate about politics while at the university; he and several friends founded the first Republican Club on campus. James was very active in the Oil and Gas industry and the Stock market until his death.

His favorite pastime in life was racing with his Ferrari Club friends at Palm Beach International Raceway or Sebring International Speedway. Being a nature and animal lover he also loved the beautiful sunsets in Santa Fe, New Mexico and Monterrey, California where he visited frequently. In Longview he always enjoyed having lunch or coffee with his special friend of many years Jay Bagwell, Jr.

A celebration of Life and Memorial Dinner will be held in James memory in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. A private committal service will be held at Fisher Historical Cemetery.

Friends wishing to make a memorial contribution in James honor can do so to any animal rescue organization, the Salvation Army or to the Highway 80 Rescue Mission all of which were very special to him.
