Funeral services for James Lewis Stembridge, 87 of Gilmer, will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Gilmer First Baptist Church with Reverend Blake Lander and Dr. David L. Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Gilmer. Mr. Stembridge passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2014 in Longview.
He was born on July 26, 1926, in Upshur County to James Alton Stembridge and Karin Lawrence Stembridge. Mr. Stembridge served in the U. S. Marine Corp. He was a supervisor at Lone Star Steel before his retirement and a member of Gilmer First Baptist Church.
Mr. Stembridge was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Runelle Stembridge; son, Loyd Stembridge and his parents.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Jennifer Stembridge of Collierville, Tennessee; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and William Bates of Gilmer; sister, Louise Hill of Gilmer; grandchildren, Rodger Bates, Amanda and Matt Bryant, Adam and Lara Miller, Jay and Veaya Stembridge, Leslie Stembridge, Ryand and Ami Stembridge; great grandchildren, Elizabeth Bryant, Seth Miller, Benjamin Miller and Luke Miller.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 217 W. Cass, Gilmer, Texas 75644 or Historic Upshur Museum, 119 Simpson, Gilmer, Texas 75644.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 21, 2014, at Croley Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M.
