Funeral services for James Elvin Childress, 68, of Big Sandy will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 11, 2012, at Croley Chapel in Gilmer with Keith Lybrand and Alton Weir officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer. Mr. Childress passed away Saturday, September 8, 2012 at his residence. Mr. Childress was born October 14, 1943 in Gilmer, Texas, to J.H. and Frances Childress, Jr. He was retired from SWEPCO after 34 of services, a Vietnam veteran of the United States Army, member of the Big Sandy Masonic Lodge #916 A.F. & A.M., lifetime member of the VFW and a member of the Baptist faith. He is survived by his wife, Lynda Childress of Big Sandy; sons and daughters-in-law, Stretch and Angie Childress of Lockbourne, Ohio, Jamey and Kelly Childress of Big Sandy and Josh and Stephanie Childress of Big Sandy; sisters and brothers-in-law, Brenda and Chuck Clayton of Tyler and Carolyn and Eddie Stegall of Pritchett; grandchildren, Hunter, Taylor and Jamie all of Ohio; Maci, Lainey and Kenlee all of Big Sandy; Bailey and Lily both of Big Sandy; his good friend, Steve "My Fat Buddy" Still. Pallbearers will be Hunter Harris, Brad Key, Brandon Baker, Donni Snow, Danny Gale and Vernon West. Honorary Pallbearers will be Billy Glenn, Eddie Davis, Johnny Lee Johnson, Steve Still, Lawrence Bell, Richard Harris, Scooter Bell and members of the Bottom Hook Hunting and Fishing Club. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, September 10, 2012 at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer.
