Graveside services for Jack Warren Pettus, 95, of Gladewater will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 28, 2018 at Gladewater Memorial Park in Gladewater with Mr. Joe Chase officiating. Jack passed away on September 26, 2018, his 95th birthday.
Jack was born September 26, 1923 in Denoya, Oklahoma to Thomas Warren Pettus and Velma Edwards Pettus. During the East Texas oil boom, Jack moved with his family at the age of 13, first to Kilgore and then to Gladewater. There he met the love of his life, Lucy Finley, at Gladewater High School. He played trombone as a member of the Gladewater High School Band, a great pleasure and pride in his life. Jack became a graduate of the Class of 1941 and later joined the USMC and served his country in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He and Lucy married in 1944 and were married for almost 69 years until her death in 2012. He and Lucy raised their three daughters in Midland, TX while he worked in the oil industry until his retirement and later moved back to his beloved hometown of Gladewater. He enjoyed watching sports, fishing and hunting were his outdoor hobbies and he was a voracious reader. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife Lucy and a granddaughter, Rachel Hill Harrell.
Jack is survived by three daughters, Jill Scurlock and husband Steve, Jane Hollingsworth and husband Richard and Julie Nicholson and husband Roy, seven of his eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great great grandchild as well as many other loving family and friends.
