Herbert Coy Hankins

Services for Herbert Coy Hankins, 87, of Gladewater will be held Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., at the First Baptist Church in Gladewater with Brother Bailey Harris officiating. Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., prior to service. Mr. Hankins passed away Monday, May 29, 2017 in Gladewater, Texas.
The youngest of four children, Mr. Hankins was born March 23, 1930 in Kennett, Missouri to the late James William Hankins and Tollie Gertrude Kennedy Hankins. Raised on a farm in Missouri, Herbert learned the value of hard work and carried it through his life as he worked for most of his career for the Pemiscot-Dunklin Electric Coop. When life allowed, he loved to go fishing and hunting in his younger days. Herbert always liked to stay busy, especially helping others. He was known to help anyone in need.
Mr. Hankins was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Gladewater. Prior to moving to Texas, he was a member and deacon of the Everett Street Baptist Church in Kennett, Missouri.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Bonnie Gale Meadows Hankins; son James Daniel Hankins; daughter Janet Lee Robertson and son-in-law Dr. Dennis Robertson; daughter-in-law Janet Poole Hankins; eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of who will miss him dearly.
Mr. Hankins was preceded in death by his parents, son David Allen Hankins, two brothers, James William “Jimmie” Hankins and Richard Bernice “Dick” Hankins, and one sister, Alberta Mozelle Jeffery.
Interment will be at 12:00 p.m., on Saturday, June 3, at The Dunklin Memorial Gardens in Kennett Missouri, with visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. prior to service at McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.
