GILMER- Memorial services for Heflin Thomas "Slim" Parris, 90, of Gilmer, Texas will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at St. Theresa Catholic Church with Reverend Mark Dunne officiating. Mr. Parris passed away at the Bradford House in Gilmer on Thursday, May 5, 2016. He was born on July 25, 1925 in Winston County, Alabama to O.A. and Mae Parris. Mr. Parris enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and served 3 years in the Pacific Campaign during WWII. He was a mechanical engineer by trade but his love was art. He taught art classes in many areas of East Texas and Louisiana. Mr. Parris and his wife, Irene, resided in Gladewater for many years and moved to Gilmer in 2013. He is survived by his loving wife, Irene; daughter, Pat Hanna and husband, Mike, Becky Gordon and husband, Randy; step-daughters, Shane Lowry and husband, Vance, Vonne Walton and husband, Rick, Shanis Young and husband, Sammy, Sharell Eason and husband, Ronnie; 16 grandchildren and 17 great- grandchildren; sister, Aurelio Larsen and husband, Harry; and many other beloved nieces, nephews, friends, and family members. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to all the people at The Bradford House Assisted Living and Heart To Heart Hospice for loving and caring for Slim and his family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in memory of H.T. Parris to St. Theresa Catholic Church Scholarship Fund, 10138 Union Grove Rd, Gladewater, TX 75647. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer.
