Funeral services for Gordon Lynn Maxwell, 46, of Ore City were held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at Coffeeville Baptist Church with Bro. Jack Hoffpauir and Bro. Pat Shannon officiating. Interment was in the Sand Hill Cemetery in Upshur County. Arrangements are by Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer. Mr. Maxwell passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2011, at his residence. Mr. Maxwell was born November 24, 1964, in Gladewater, Texas. He graduated form Ore City High School, and then moved to Coushatta, La. There he was affectionally called "Shag" by those who knew him and loved him. Coushatta, La., is where Gordon spent most of his adult life and where he surrendered to the ministry and obtained his license while attending Freedom Ministry Church. From there he became the Preacher of Amazing Grace Baptist Church and continued to preach there until he moved back to Ore City in November 2010. He is survived by his parents, Melvin Dean and Betty Maxwell of Ore City and Sherry and John Strencel of Harleton; brothers, Melvin Dean, Jr., and Jerry Maxwell of West Mountain, Bryan Todd Maxwell of Ore City, Christopher Cody and Shanna Maxwell of Ore City. Shane Harp of Avinger, Roylee Hicks of Pritchett; daughters, Misty Giddings and Samantha Smith; grandsons, Eric, Landon, Eli, Ethan all of Coushatta, La. Also many family and friends dear to this heart. Gordon was loved by all that met him and will be dearly missed. Our family takes great comfort in knowing he is with our Lord and Savior. Gordon is our newest angel. Pallbearers were Scotty Maxwell, Rick Harrison, Will Fails, Toby Byrant, Bill Robertson, and Richard Nix.
