Glenna Gulley Harper, age 90, former longtime Gladewater resident, passed away on February 11, 2024, in Longview after a long illness. Glenna was born on April 10, 1933, in Wellington, Texas to Harrison Harmon and Ruby Gulley.
Glenna, affectionately known as Memaw, was known for her sense of humor and her living life to the fullest. She ‘kept the roads hot’ traveling and saying, “I’m going everywhere but nowhere.” She played bingo and dominos and loved to go camping with her family. When she was at home you could catch her watching Gunsmoke and Walker Texas Ranger while indulging in her favorite sweets, chocolates, and Dr. Pepper. Glenna worked at several different places, Ritz Pharmacy, Carthage Cup, Kilgore College Cafeteria, and home health. When Glenna would meet someone new, her first words would be, “Now who the hell are you!” After that first meeting, she was known by all as Memaw. Her sayings and personality will be dearly missed by her family, who she loved spending time with the most.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Thomas B. Harper; brother, Gotha Gulley; sister, Fern Kimbell; two grandchildren, Thomas Lynn Harper Jr. and Ricky Choate, and son in law Jimmy Choate.
Glenna is survived by two sons, Billy Harper and Thomas Harper Sr. and wife Tammy; two daughters, Deanna Harper Choate and Fannie Gail Briggs and husband Hollis; sister, Donna Ornelas; grandchildren, Michelle Clark and husband Chris, Paula Maxwell, Rebecca Hamby and husband Shannon, Kelly Harper, Deborah Haworth and husband Bob, Jamie Choate, Amber Miles, Christy Harper, Autumn Harper, Jarrod Briggs and wife Jana, Clifford Harper, and Zeno Harper; several great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral service for Glenna will be held at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gilmer on Friday, February 16, 2024, at 2 PM. She will be buried at the Chalk Hill Cemetery in Henderson. A visitation for Glenna will be held from 6-8 PM Thursday, February 15, 2024, at the Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer.
