Gerald was born in Gilmer, TX to Barney and Myrtle Roberts and and went to his Heavenly home on August 31, 2023.

Gerald was a proud Army Veteran that served in WWII.  He enlisted in 1944 where he trained at Ft. Stewart, Ga: Ft. Benning, Ga; Ft. Hood, Tx before he was deployed.  Gerald was part of the 164th Infantry American Division serving in the Philippines, Mindanao and Cebu.  While there he and his unit had orders to search, capture and destroy Japanese resistance hiding in the mountains.  They engaged almost daily in firefights with mortars, rifles and at times face-to-face with pistols. The American division then headed to Okinawa.  Before the ships reach Okinawa the Untied States dropped the atomic bombs.  At that point Gerald was transferred to the 531st Military Police Battalion serving in Yokohama, Japan. He returned from Japan in 1945 where he finished serving his country and separated from the US Army in Ft. Lewis, Washington.  Gerald boarded a train leaving behind Ft. Lewis, Washington and headed home to Gilmer, Texas.  Once home he worked hard to support and love his family. Gerald “retired” at 67 years old where he still worked 3 days a week for the next 15 years until fully retiring March 12th, 2012 at 85 years old.  On May 27th, 2023, Gerald celebrated his 97th birthday. He leaves behind many memories with all those he met.

Those he leaves behind are his wife, Mavinee Roberts, sons Ronney Roberts (Dott), Rick Roberts (Karen), brothers Charlie Roberts (Bonnie), Ray Roberts (Janie), 5 grandchildren Michael (Valerie), Gregg Lansdale (Randi), Matthew, Brandon (November), Blake (Cassie), and 15 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Barney and Myrtle Roberts and siblings, Grady Roberts, Pauline Harrison, Jeffie Nix and Max Roberts.

The family would like to express a special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at Hearts Way Hospice of Northeast Texas for all their loving care.
