Gerald (Jerry) McMullen, 87, of Longview passed away Friday, December 9, 2015 after a lengthy illness. Jerry was born December 4, 1929 in Nacogdoches, TX. He was the only child of the late Milton and Ruth McMullen. Jerry graduated from Nacogdoches High School in 1947 and graduated with a history degree from Stephen F. Austin while playing quarterback for the Lumberjacks. After serving in the United States National Guard as a Second Lieutenant, he began a long career as an educator. He served as a teacher, coach, and a principal in both the Tyler and Dallas areas. Jerry was able to coach and influence many fine young men who called him "Coach". Jerry loved all sports, either playing himself, coaching others, or playing basketball, football, tennis, or golf with his sons, or reminiscing with former players who would visit.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 37 years, Grace Townsend McMullen, children, David McMullen and wife Dixie of Texarkana, Dan McMullen and wife Pam (deceased), step-daughters, Debbie Giles and husband Rick of Dallas, Glenda Sperier and husband Pat of Ore City, Karen Hicks and husband Ken of Ore City, and Stepson, Ronnie Townsend (deceased). "Pawpaw Mac" is survived by 13 grandchildren and 18 great-great grandchildren.
A memorial will be held Saturday, December L7, at 11 am, Calvary Baptist Church, 47L5 Tenneryville Rd, Longview, TX, where Jerry has been a long time member, with Bro. Richard Jones officiating.
