Private graveside services for Mrs. Freda McChristian, 80, of Liberty City will be held at Rock Springs Cemetery under the direction of Croley Funeral Home of Gladewater. Due to the national health crisis, the family asks that condolences be made at www.croleyfh.net. Freda passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2020, in Longview.
Freda was born, February 26, 1940, in Leechville, Arkansas to the late Ray Smith and Edna Linhart Smith Powell. Mrs. McChristian moved to Texas in the late 60’sShe worked as a Cafeteria Manager for the Kilgore and Sabine schools until her retirement. Freda loved her family and cherished spending time with them. She adored children not just her own but all children. Freda enjoyed garage sales, going to the movies, gardening and cooking. Mrs. McChristian truly lived by “The Golden Rule” and raised her children to do the same. Freda will not soon be forgotten by all the loving family and friends she leaves behind.
Freda is survived by her daughters Dawn McChristian and Megan McChristian Bradley and her husband Jack; granddaughter Molly McChristian Bradley; sisters Shirley Hester, Linda Ludwick and Eve Griner; brother Johnnie Smith; her faithful companion “Killer, II” as well as many other loving family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Ray Smith and Edna Smith Powell, husband Bill McChristian and siblings Calvin Smith, Christine Johnson and Jackie Smith.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Trinity Timbers and Traditions Hospice for their devoted care to Freda.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorials in Freda’s name be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation at 322 Eighth, Ave., 7th Fl., New York, NY 10001.
