Celebration of life services for Evelyn & Phillip Barnhill of Hewitt, Texas will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at the White Oak Baptist Church in White Oak with Brother Joe Smith officiating. The Barnhill’s passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2017 in Hewitt.

Mr. Barnhill was born April 11, 1932 in Converse, Louisiana to the late Gordon Frances Barnhill and Verdie Lee Price Barnhill. Mr. Barnhill served in the U.S. Navy from 1954-57. While in the Navy he became an accomplished boxer. He was a Barber in White Oak for many years before moving away. Mr. Barnhill worked as a Judication Officer for the VA Administration. He was an active and devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Hewitt. Phillip was a past president of the Lion’s Club from 1967-68, past president of the White Oak I.S.D. from 1972-73 and served as the Worshipful Master of the Baylor Masonic Lodge #1235 in 1995. Phil enjoyed grilling, playing golf, hunting and fishing; but his greatest enjoyment came from watching his grandsons in their activities no matter what it might be.

Mrs. Barnhill was born November 23, 1935 in Gladewater to the late Henry Sanford Brookshier and Gladys Edith Smith Brookshier. Mrs. Barnhill worked as a clerk for the tax office. She also worked in numerous childcare facilities the last of which being the Columbus Avenue Baptist Church CDC. Jeannine was also an active member of the First Baptist Church in Hewitt. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and homemaker. Jeannine also loved to travel with Phil to watch their grandsons at all their activities.

The Barnhill’s were married in White Oak on November 16, 1957 and after 60 years of marriage they will spend eternity together as well. They will be truly missed by all the loving family and friends they leave behind.

They are survived by their two sons Kent Barnhill and wife Glenyss of Lorena and Jeff Barnhill of White Oak; Evelyn’s sister Betty Brookshier Chronister of White Oak; Evelyn’s brother Donald Brookshier of Azle; Phillip’s sister Mary Alice Folds of Kathleen, GA; Phillip’s brother Ronnie Barnhill of West Monroe, LA; four grandsons Wesley Barnhill, Daniel Barnhill, Jade Barnhill and Joel Hammontree as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends.
