Elmo was born December 18, 1920 in Oglesby, Texas to E.D. and Cora Bell Hunt. He was a Baptist and a member of First Baptist Church in Gilmer, Texas. He also served as a member of the United States Army under General Patton. Elmo was part of the Third Army during WWII landing on Omaha Beach, Normandy on June 6, 1944. Prior to his service in the Army Elmo worked on the family farm near Greenville, Texas. Upon returning home from the Army Elmo worked for Coca Cola Bottling Company for 56 years and in his retirement worked for Brookshires in Gilmer for 2 1/2 years. Elmo never met a stranger. He enjoyed music and singing with a local country band for the senior citizen dances in Gilmer. He also enjoyed wood working and home improvement projects. Elmo is preceded in death by wife Mauvalene Tackitt; Mother Cora Bell Blevins Hunt; Father E. D. Hunt; Brother Elza Hunt; Sisters Tiny Bell Neaves and Mamie Adams. Elmo is survived by sons John Hunt and wife Linda of Plano, Texas and David Hunt of Gilmer, Texas. Granchildren Scott Hunt and wife Marcie Hunt of Gilmer; Dana Morgan and husband Brent of Palestine; Jamie Leuschner and husband Bob of Gilmer; and Jana Pritchett and husband Tim also of Gilmer. Great grandchildren Caitlin Pritchett, Colin Morgan, Kathryn Morgan, Brett Howell and Bailey Howell. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Hearts Way Hospice and the Gilmer Care Center for the wonderful care given to Elmo during these final years.
