Douglas Dean Reeves

Douglas Dean Reeves passed away on February 21, 2025, at the age of 81. He was born on November 25, 1943, in Upshur County, Texas to Travis and Margaret (Childs) Reeves.

 Doug was a proud veteran of the Army, embodying the principles of honor and dedication throughout his life. His endeavors after military service led him to a career at Eastman Chemical, where he retired after many years.

In addition to his professional achievements, Doug was known for his distinctive personality. An avid knife maker, crafting each piece with care. His love for craftsmanship was paralleled only by his enjoyment of days spent on the rifle range with his dear friend, Ralph Degeriun.

Beyond hobbies and work, what brought Doug the greatest joy was the time he spent with family, particularly with his great grandsons. These moments were woven with stories, guidance, and a legacy of love that will forever resonate in their hearts.

Doug is survived by his daughter, Kristie Hutto; brother, Gary Reeves and wife Cathy; sister, Patti Danner and husband Rick; granddaughter, Shelby Laastad and her husband Danny; 2 great grandsons, Trigger and River Laastad.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty Reeves; son, Michael Reeves; brothers, Raymond Reeves and Larry Reeves.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer, Texas. A funeral service will take place the following day, Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at 10:00 AM, also at Croley Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Rosewood Cemetery.
