GILMER- Funeral Services for Dorothy "Dot" Bates Hart, 86, of Gilmer will be held at 2:00 P.M., on Thursday, December 31, 2015 at First United Methodist Church in Gilmer. Interment will follow at Simpsonville Cemetery in Upshur County. Mrs. Hart passed away on Monday, December 28, 2015. She was born on December 20, 1929, in Upshur County to John Henry and Sallie Lee Sewell Bates. She was married to Arlis Hart for sixty five years. They married on February 19, 1950 in Upshur County. Dot was a life member of the First United Methodist Church, a Charter Member of the F & F Sunday School Class, and an excellent seamstress. After her husband, Arlis, retired they traveled with close friends for over ten years. To many, Mrs. Hart was a compassionate friend that never got tired of helping others. She is survived by her husband, Arlis Hart of Gilmer; sister, Kathryn Duncan of Pittsburg; son, John Hart and wife, Nancy of Tyler; daughter, Carol Tevebaugh and husband, Ron of Longview; grandchildren, Michael Hart and wife Megan, Ashley Cleere and husband, Travis, Sallie Hart, Reverend Brandi Horton and husband, Reverend David Horton and great-granddaughter, Gracie Lee Hart, and another great-grandchild expected in two months. Mrs. Hart was preceded in death by her parents, John Henry and Sallie Lee Sewell Bates; six brothers; and two sisters. In lieu of flowers a memorial is suggested to First United Methodist Church in Gilmer or Hospice of East Texas in Tyler.
