Donald L. "Don" Humphries, Sr

Services for Donald Levine Humphries, 95, of Gladewater will be Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gladewater with Mr. Joe Chase officiating. Burial will follow at Gladewater Memorial Park in Gladewater. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater. Mr. Humphries passed away on Monday, December 11, 2017 in Tyler.

He was known for his love of reading and spending time on his farm. In his youth Donald had a passion for gymnastics and boxing. Among his many accomplishments he was a great mechanic who worked for several automotive shops before owning his own service station. Donald retired from Gladewater High school where he was the instructor for the VICA program.

Mr. Humphries proudly served in the United States Army during WWII and The Korean War; during WWII he was part of the second wave in Normandy, France on D-Day.

Donald is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law Don Humphries, DVM and wife, Etta of Gladewater and Richard Humphries and wife, Jeanette of Gladewater; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Rubye Wood and husband Gordon of Edgewood; Nephew David Blalock; five grandchildren: Luetta Allen and husband, Tim, Donna Hutcheson and husband, Steve, John Mark Humphries and wife, Andrea, Amanda Brandish and husband, Tim and Becky Humphries; ten great grandchildren as well as many other loving family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Ira and Winnie Humphries and beloved wife Helen.
