Donald "Don" Ray Chaney

Donald “Don” Ray Chaney, 75, of Gilmer, passed away peacefully at home on November 28, 2022. He was born on April 5, 1947, in Natchez, Mississippi to the late William Isaac and Evelyn Chaney.

Don proudly served his country for two years in the Marine Corps. He then continued his service in the US Army Reserve for 16 more years. He was very proud of his military service as well as the service of his grandchildren in the services. Don spent most of his career as a tool maker for General Motors. Known by “Pops” to those most important to Don, he always made sure his family was taken care of and made sure that his kids and grandkids knew how much they meant to their Pops.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn; daughters, Melissa and her husband, Gary Ray Pyle and Donna and her husband, Lee Rawlings; grandchildren, Cody Wayne Collier, Jimmy Don and his wife, Ashley Ritter, Lindi and her husband, Evin Wilson, Samantha and her husband, Michael Bryant and Wesley Ray Pyle; great-grandchildren, Denver, Kyle, James, Jordan and Mikey; as well as his two sisters, Chris and her husband, Clenten Rogers and Betty Smith.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, William Isaac and Evelyn Chaney as well as his two brothers, Ricky and Roger Chaney.

Graveside services for Don will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at 11:00 am at the Floyd Cemetery in Gilmer. A visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 prior to the graveside service at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer.
