Dewtrine Clower (1934-2024)

Dewtrine Clower, 90, of Diana, TX, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2024. She was born March 17, 1934, to the late Luther and Ruby Hawkins. She grew up with three sisters and four brothers, all of whom she loved dearly. Dewtrine worked as a hairdresser in her very own beauty shop, where she loyally served customers for 40 years before retiring. Dewtrine was an active member of Smyrna Methodist Church, where she shared her musical gifts for several decades. She demonstrated her love for Christ and serving others through her years of piano playing at gospel singings and hosting gospel singing get-togethers at her home, where her famous banana pudding was served. It was at a gospel singing where she met her husband, AJ Clower. They were married August 13, 1953. In her free time, Dewtrine enjoyed playing hymns on her piano, tending to her flowers, cooking, and shopping for stylish clothes. She served as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Lovingly called “Mother” by her children, “Mimi” by her grandchildren, and “Aunt Doodle” by her nieces and nephews, she was quick to inform you that she was the one and only “Dewtrine.”

Dewtrine was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, S.G. Hawkins, Morris Hawkins, Don Hawkins, Weldon Hawkins; her sisters, Cora Lee Evans, Matti Lou Wyatt, Bernice Nobles; and her loving husband. She is survived by her three children, Danny Clower, Ricky Clower and wife Melanie, Trina Cooner and husband Chris; her three grandchildren, Mandy Sills and husband John, Dana Sellers and husband Nicholas, Ethan Cooner; and her great-grandchildren, Olivia, Lexie, and Bristol Sills.

Visitation will be held at Croley Funeral Home of Diana on Thursday, March 28, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 29, at 10:00 AM at Smyrna Methodist Church with Brother James Fleet officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to Smyrna Methodist Church would be greatly appreciated.
