David Hugh Smith

David Smith, 74, passed away on September 2, 2022, in Longview, TX.

David was born on November 2, 1947 in Gilmer, TX, to the late Louie Smith and Helen Smith and was a graduate of the Class of 1967 at Gilmer High School.  He was also the owner of Smith Oil Company. David valued his time training in the American Taekwondo Association under the leadership of Jack Yoder and Master Sam Phrumjuntun, where he earned the rank of First Degree Black Belt.

He enjoyed all things western and rodeos. He loved watching the sport of rodeo and taking part in the rodeo clown acts occasionally. He loved the rodeo sport, barrel racing, and especially our local barrel racing cowgirls.

David loved dogs and enjoyed spending time with his Great Danes taking them on walks through the woods in his pasture. He was a member of Diana United Methodist Church and attended Indian Rock Baptist and Mobberly Baptist Church for many years.

David is survived by his daughter, Pamela Smith-Ray and husband, Don, and Sara Smith; as well as one grandson, Colton Ray.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Micheal L. Smith Sr.

Funeral service for David will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, September 9, 2022 at Croley Funeral Home with Rev. Dick Dobbins officiating, interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
