David Allen Lloyd

David Allen Lloyd, 77, of Gladewater, Texas died on Saturday Evening, Aug. 9, 2014 at home with family. Cremation will be handled by Croly Funeral of Gladewater, Texas. David was born on Nov. 9, 1936, in Supulpa, Oklahoma to Ray A. Lloyd and Vivian K. Simms. He was a life time member of First Baptist Church of Gladewater. He came to know the Lord at an young age and began serving the Lord at an early age. A 1955 senior of Gladewater High School, and attended Darlington Prep before receiving his Diploma from Staunton Military Academy in June of 1955. Starting his college career at Texas Tech then transfering to Georgia to letter in 1957-58 and recieving a Bachelor of Science degree from the University before going on to play professional football for the Cleveland Browns from 1959 to 1961 and traded to play one season for Detroit Lions. At which time meet and married Ann Marie Pagan Lloyd on March 12, 1963 and shared their life together before her death on July 12, 2012. He then played middlelinebacker and kicker for the Philadelphia Eagles (1963-1970. He earned the All Stars Special Golden Helmet Award in the 1970 Pro Bowl Football Game. During the off season he took every opportunoity to play golf whereever he traveled as well as working as a salesman. After retiring from football he owned and operated Action Construction Company in Longview later to moving to Gladewater. He was a past member of the Gladewater Chamber of Commerce, a promoter of the Gladewater Community and a member of the Football Letterman's Club. Contributing to the NFL Alumni Charity Golf Classic Series Petrolelm and Oil Tournaments over the years. He had many fans and friends in East Texas. He was also a member of the Gladewater Lions Club, a member of the Gladewater Hunting and Fishing Club and a former member Gladewater Country Club. He is survived by Sister Sadie Johnson of Lancaster; his son and daughter-in-law, Dwayne Allen and Lori Lloyd of Gilmer; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Michelle Lloyd Askew and Louis Askew of Gladewater; daughter Jetta Lynn Lloyd Hilson of Florida: step daughter Alana Jarvis of Michagan and 9 grandchildren, David Lloyd, Devin Lloyd, Victor Hill, Marcey Hill, Janet Teodorczyk, Jenifer Boyce, William Hester, Justin Hilson & Jason Smith. And many great grandchildren. A memorial will be held Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the Former Students Building behind the Gladewater Rodeo Grounds from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
