Cynthia "Cindy" Gail Valdez, age 62, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2025, in Longview, Texas. Cindy was raised in Pine Tree and was a 1980 Pirate alumna. She was a longtime resident of Union Grove and proud of the community she lived in.
Cindy devoted her life to serving others as a "professional volunteer." She was deeply involved in church activities, where her giving heart and caring spirit touched countless lives. Despite her favorite animal being a sloth, she was known for her quickness to help others. She was always steadfast in her commitment to making a difference and would move mountains to get things accomplished. Cindy was a caring, and crafty soul who brought warmth and creativity to every corner of her life. She could talk your ear off, never met a stranger and was always making new friends. The list of those whom she has impacted is profound. She was an animal lover and had numerous pets throughout her life and she always considered them as her children. She was also known for her investigative skills and was the honorary community watch person in her neighborhood.
She cherished and loved her grandchildren, her God daughter and each and every one of her nieces and nephews, taking immense pride in all their accomplishments she bragged about them every chance she could get.
Cindy is survived by her husband, Joe Valdez Sr.; her stepson, Joe "Joey" Valdez Jr.; and her siblings, Betty Weaver, David Dodson, Johnny Dodson, and Paula Lacaze.
She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Cher Nichols, her stepson, Brandon Valdez and her parents Fred and Dorothy Dodson.
Cindy will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her, but her love, compassion and legacy will live on in their hearts.
