Curtis Virgil Hart, age 90, of Gilmer, Texas passed away on August 1, 2023 in Gladewater, Texas. Curtis was born on August 28, 1932 and was the youngest of six children born to GL “Feddie” and Sevie Hart in Simpsonville, Texas.
Curtis attended and graduated from Union Hill High School. After graduation he enrolled in Kilgore College. He went on to serve his country in the Air Force during the Korean War while being stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi. While in the Air Force he taught the fundamentals of radar. After leaving the Air Force he returned home where he was employed by the railroad.
On May 31, 1958 he married Rachel Youngblood who he was married to for 65 years. After their marriage he enrolled in Texas A&M where he graduated in 1959. After returning home from College Station, he worked at Harmony ISD before leaving to take a job as the Assistant County Agent for Gregg County, then as a power use advisor for Marshall Utility Company. Then Curtis embarked on a long successful career of over 20 years with the Federal Land Bank. Curtis and Rachel moved their family to Stephenville, Texas while working for the Land Bank and then later Georgetown, Tx.
After moving back to Gilmer, Curtis was an active member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Gilmer and later became a member of the Glade Creek Baptist Church. He was very passionate about spending time with family and friends.
Curtis is survived by his wife Rachel and their three children, Mike Hart and his wife Vicki of Lucas, Tx, Patty Hart of Bedford, Tx, and Nancy Hart Walker and her husband Wendall of Pittsburg, Tx. Also surviving Curtis are four grandchildren Tyson Hart and wife Kim of Nacogdoches, Tx, Haley Hart Neahr and husband Ryan of Wylie, Tx, Charles Walker of Houston, Tx, and Sterling Walker of Austin, Tx. And lastly four great grandchildren Taylor Hart, Grady Hart, Hudson Neahr, and Griffin Neahr. Also, surviving Curtis is his brother James Melvin Hart and his wife Carolyn, and sister-in-law Jeanene Hart.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Dorothy Hackler and Jewel Matkin, and brothers Arlis Hart and Royce Hart.
Funeral services for Mr. Hart will be held at 10:00 am Friday August 4, 2023 in Gilmer, Tx in the Chapel of Croley Funeral Home with Bro. Wayne Norvell and Bro. Mike Kessler officiating. Graveside service to follow at Glade Creek Cemetery. The family will receive family and friends on Thursday August 3, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Croley Funeral Home.
