Clovis Virmell (Swinney) Dean

Services for Clovis V. Dean, 91, of Gilmer, will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, April 13, 2023, at Rosewood Baptist Church, with Brother Charles Johnson officiating.  Interment will follow at Rosewood Cemetery.  The family will receive guests starting at 1:00 PM, prior to the services at the church.  Mrs. Dean passed away on Friday, April 7, 2023, at home, surrounded by her family.

Clovis was born on February 13, 1932, in Texarkana, AR to the late Cleo Clovis and Winnie Virmell Swinney.  Clovis married Calvin R. Dean on February 27, 1948, in Texarkana and enjoyed 70 years together, prior to Calvin’s passing in 2018.

She enjoyed spending time working as an attendant at the Laundromat and being able to help take care of people.  Wanting to be an example to her grandchildren, Clovis went back and obtained her GED at the age of 79.

Clovis is survived by her children, Calvin Wayne and wife, Susan Dean, Jerry Edward and wife, Vickie Dean and daughter, Kathy Clark; sister, Virginia Raspberry; 27 grandchildren and many great and great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Cleo and Winnie Swinney; husband, Calvin; children, Lonnie Joe Dean, Judy Dean Bloyed and Patsy Dean Lewis and her husband, Jerry Lewis; son-in-law, Carl Clark, and her siblings, Walter, Clarence, Alvia and Joyce.
