C.J. Mitchell, Jr.

Mr. C.J. Mitchell, Jr, age 84 of Gilmer, passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at the Veterans Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana. C.J. was born on November, 28, 1933 in Rusk County to the Late Cornelius Justin Mitchell, Sr. and Fannie Elizabeth Rutledge Mitchell. He was a retired welder and mechanic, and a member of the Baptist faith. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
C.J. was a dedicated worker and provider for his family. When he wasn’t working and after retirement, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, working his cows and tending his garden on the farm. He married his loving wife, Valeria (Corbitt) Mitchell on May 29, 1957 in Gladewater; she survives. He is also survived by his sons, Cornelius “Justin” Mitchell, III and wife Dorinda of Lindale, Michael Mitchell and wife Andi of Longview; daughter, Laura Beth Bolt and husband Michael of Gilmer; eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
C.J. was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Duane Mitchell, Juan Mitchell; and sister, Wynema Shelton.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Croley Funeral Home of Gilmer at 2:00 PM, with visitation beginning one hour prior at 1:00 PM, Bro. J.N. Metcalf
and Michael Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at Morris Cemetery in Upshur County with Justin Ross Mitchell, Joshua Mitchell, Joel Mitchell, Josiah Mitchell, Judah Mitchell, Ryan Bolt, and Trent Bolt serving as pallbearers.
