Funeral services for Charles Roy Wilkins, Jr., 72, of Hawkins will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church in Hawkins with Dr. Allison Byerley officiating. Interment will be in the Holly Tree Cemetery in Wood County. Arrangements are under the direction of Croley Funeral Home in Hawkins. Mr. Wilkins went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 28, 2014. He passed away at his home in Holly Lake Ranch.
Charles was born October 5, 1941 in Goldthwaite, Texas to Charles Roy, Sr. and Rachel Johnson Wilkins. He became an Eagle Scout and played high school football for the Goldthwaite Eagles. He received a God and Country Award from the Boy Scouts, and was proud of that all his life. In 1967, he met and married Anna Gail Reese, and the couple soon went to start their life together in Irving.
Charles worked in data services for Dallas County for more than 20 years before his retirement. He was a loving father to his two children, enjoying " or perhaps enduring " countless activities, church outings, long road trips and campouts. He was no stranger to setting up a tent in a driving rain.
Charles and Anna were members of First Methodist Church in Irving before moving to Holly Lake Ranch and joining First Methodist Hawkins. He had many hobbies over the years, including painting, making jewelry, collecting antiques and old firearms, and cheating at cards. Some might say he loved to cheat more than he loved to play.
Charles dearly loved his dog, Ginger, and Bubba before her. He had an abiding kindness in his heart and a never-ending well of jokes, cut-ups and tall tales. But he was never, ever afraid to tell his family and friends that he loved them deeply. He will be missed so very much by all who loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Wilkins of the home, daughter Amanda Wilkins and partner Shawna Eikenberry of Dallas, son Charles Roy Wilkins III, and sister Marsha Wilkins Grove of Austin. He was preceded in death by his sister, Nell Carmen Wilkins Harper of San Angelo, and his parents, Charles Roy Wilkins Sr. and Rachel Johnson Wilkins.
Pallbearers will be Bill Taylor, Stoney Ferris, Roger Moroney, Rod Alleman, Les Flannery and Wade Tongen.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at the First United Methodist in Hawkins.
Memorials can be made to the Holly Lake Fire Department or the charity of your choice.
