Charles M. Parsons

Memorial services for Mr. Charles M. Parsons, 69, of Gilmer, Texas will be held at the Mickey Melton Auditorium at Longview High School on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. Mr. Parsons passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 in Longview, Texas.

Charles was born on March 19, 1948 in Upshur County, Texas to Robert Edwin Parsons, Sr. and Anne Catherine Mackey Parsons. He graduated with a masters degree from the University of Texas. He worked for Longview High School as a Latin teacher and was the former band and orchestra director. Mr. Parsons married Nelda Jones Parsons on September 24, 2003 and he loved music, art, opera, traveling and cooking.

He is survived by his loving wife of 13 years, Nelda Parsons; step-daughters, Susan Floyd and her husband Jason of College Station, Texas and Alisa Thorold of Gilmer; brother, Robert Edwin Parsons, Jr. and his wife Faynell “Funny” of Austin, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Glen and Jim Engelking of Golden, Colorado; sister-in-law, Laura Parsons Sargeant; grandchildren, Jake Floyd, Maddox Floyd, Lennox Thorold and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and former and current students he considered family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Catherine Mackey Parsons and brother, Christopher Burns Parsons.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Charles M. Parsons Scholarship Foundation at Gilmer National Bank, C/O PO Box 416, Judson, Texas 75660.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 27, 2017 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer.
