Mr. Charles Still, 89, passed away Monday, April 2, 2018 in Gilmer. Charles was born April 6, 1928 in Gilmer to the late Frank and Evelyn (Holloway) Still. Mr. Still began working at the age of 16 for Beech Aircraft Corp as a riveter, assembling the engine housing for the Douglas A-26 Invader. Mr. Still proudly served in the Army Reserve and Army National Guard for 26 years. Charles served in engineering and infantry units, retiring as SSgt. Mr. Still began working for the TX State Highway Department in June of 1947 where he worked in the engineering department for 30 years. For 25 years, Charles Still was known as, “The Weather Man,” reporting the high and low temperatures and the amount of rain fall in the Gilmer area for NOAA (The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration). Mr. Still was also a member of the Gilmer Church of Christ.
Mr. Still is survived by his daughters, Donna Moree and Linda Shaw both of Gilmer; his son, James Still and wife Phyllis of Gilmer; grandchildren, Patricia Swann, Shara Sulkov, Laurie Montgomery and Leah Murray; and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James and Tommy Still; and sister, Maryanne Watts.
