Charles Evans Wood

Services for Mr. Charles E. Wood, 87, of Gladewater will be held on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Gladewater. Burial will follow at Bear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Linden, Texas under the direction of Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater. Mr. Wood was born July 18, 1928 in Port Arthur, Texas and passed away January 8, 2016 in Gladewater. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Charles came to Gladewater in 1954 and owned an appliance business for many years. He has been a volunteer fire fighter for the Gladewater Fire Department, a member of the Lions Club, and a member of the Masonic Lodge of Gladewater. He was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Gladewater. He is remembered as someone who was always willing to help and had a great faith in God. His favorite hymn was Victory In Jesus and he truly believed that with all his Heart. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 63 years, Christine Wood and his daughter and son-in-law, Jay and Vivian Shepherd of Longview, Also he has one brother Bill Wood of Houston. His grandchildren are Jamin and Lilah Shepherd of Longview and Sarah and Erik Olson of Fort Worth. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 1:00 to 2:00 pm before his funeral service at the First Baptist Church in Gladewater.
