Charlie Harrison, age 81, of Gilmer, passed away on Tuesday morning, July 27, 2010, at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., today, July 29, 2010, at Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gilmer, with the Rev. Don Ross officiating. Charlie was born on September 30, 1928, in Upshur County, the son of Charlie D. and Martha Elizabeth Harrison. Charlie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gilmer, and he served as an ordained deacon for many years in several churches across Texas. His career was in the poultry business, having retired as general manager from West Egg Products of West, Texas in 1995. He was past president of Texas Egg Council, Texas Poultry Federation and the Kiwanis Club of West. Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Pauline Roberts Harrison of Gilmer; a son, David Elwyn Harrison and wife Arlene of South Dakota; a daughter, Donna Harrison Hanson and husband Ken of Deer Park; a daughter, Neva Harrison Howard and husband Ernie of La Porte; six grandsons, Daryl Wayne Hanson, John David Harrison, Erik Charles Hanson, Tyrell Glen Harrison, Ernest Alton Howard Jr. and Daniel Todd Howard; twelve great-grandchildren; a sister, Wanda Harrison Stracener; and many other family and friends. Charlie's six grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Texas Baptist Home for Children, 629 Farley St., Waxahachie, Texas 75165 or Gideon's International.
