Charlene Hewitt Miller passed May 2, 2015 with her dear friend Carolyn and loving family by her side. She was 83 years old. Charlene was born February 4, 1932 in the community of Rocky, outside of Gladewater, TX. Charlene was the daughter of the late Charlie and Mary Etta Hewitt. Charlene attended school in Pritchett and graduated from Gladewater High School. She then went on to attend Tyler Junior College in Tyler, TX. Charlene excelled in leadership positions and had great success working at the University of Tyler hospital with her mother at a young age. She later went on to work for the Continental Trailways Golden Eagle deluxe bus service out of downtown Dallas. Charlene was responsible for managing the hostesses that made the route from Dallas to Houston such an enjoyable and comfortable trip for their patrons. She also later founded an answering service with her husband. They owned the successful business for many years. Charlene was a striking young woman who loved to celebrate life and in her younger days, was a friend of the late Elvis Presley and rodeo performer, Casey Tibbs. She loved riding horses and was very fond of traveling. Her favorite role in life was being an Aunt to numerous nieces and nephews and she cherished each and every one. Charlene truly valued her family and she will be missed by many. She is survived by her sister, Frances Williams; sister, Doris and Pete Thomas; and brother, Lewis and Lou Hewitt, all of Pritchett, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Miller, whom she loved very much. Graveside services will be at Gladewater Memorial Cemetery at 2pm on Tuesday, May 5th with Eddie Coleman officiating under the direction of Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer, TX. The family would like to thank the Wesley House in Gilmer, TX for their wonderful care and love shown to Charlene. She was very happy at the Wesley House and in lieu of flowers; the family respectfully requests that memorial donations can be made to the Wesley House in her honor.
