Casey Lynn Lawson was born on January 26, 1979, in Longview, Texas, and went home to be with our Lord on Friday, February 28th, 2025, in Gilmer, Texas, after a brief battle with cancer.
Casey lived her entire life in Gilmer, graduating from Gilmer High School in 1997. She graduated from the University of Texas in 2002 with her bachelor's degree in business administration.
On March 20, 2004, Casey married Bill Lawson, her soulmate and best friend, and they shared 21 years of bliss and blessings, surrounded by the people they loved dearest. They never left each other's side.
She spent her entire 22-year career with the City of Longview as a 911 dispatcher, helping countless people in their times of need. She served as a shift supervisor for the last 17 years of her career. Casey always led by example and will be missed by her colleagues. They chose her to be honored as supervisor of the year five times. She will be remembered for her dedication both to her job and to her peers in dispatch and amongst emergency responders.
Casey was passionate about community involvement. She was a member of Zonta Club of Longview, where she served as secretary and on the scholarship committee. Casey was a member of Women in Longview Day as well. Both clubs' core values involve helping young ladies in their local community achieve success. She will be dearly missed by all of her “Z ladies” She had many hobbies. She enjoyed playing card games and attending concerts. She loved playing gin-rummy with the people dearest to her heart, even when they were calling each other names half the game. Her favorite hobby was being at home in her chair napping with her dogs, almost certainly listening to the Golden Girls play in the background.
She had many titles, but her favorite was probably Aunt Casey. She always had the strongest of maternal instincts and loved to take care of “her kids," blood relation or not. She was Aunt Casey to many, all of whom she would’ve done anything in the world for.
Casey was preceded in death by her parents, Dan Phillips and June Phillips and her brothers, Danny Phillips and Chris Phillips.
She is survived by her husband Bill Lawson of Gilmer, and her brother and sister-in-law Kelly and Angela Phillips of Waskom.
Casey was truly one of a kind. She was a proud Texan, always putting her faith and family above herself. Anyone who knew her was truly better for it. She leaves behind a very large extended family that she loved more than words could express.
The family would like to thank everyone that has been involved in this process with us. The acts of love and kindness have been truly humbling, and for that we are grateful. Regardless how you knew Casey - if she was your boss, friend, aunt, spouse, sister, zonta sister, or her “family she chose” - she will leave behind a huge hole in our hearts but know that she loved all of you.
