Carol Audine Cook, age 70, passed away August 7, 2012, at her home in Longview. She was born to Audie Claude Cook and Renie Walker Cook October 22, 1941 in Daingerfield. After completing her education there, she joined and proudly served her country in the United States Navy, earning her second class stripes in very short time. During Boot Camp she earned "Sharp Wave" several times, having the best-made bunk, neatest locker, and dressed in uniform to perfection. She was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Medal. She worked in data processing, serving at the Naval Air Stations in Jacksonville, Florida, and Corpus Christi, Texas. After military service Carol she returned to her roots and opened Cook's Craft with her mother and ran it for several years, serving food to the truck drivers hauling iron ore to the local steel mill. Carol had many job skills and there was nothing she could not handle. Over the years she worked at Stroh Brewery, Lone Star Steel, Crim Tobacco, Sure Pro Services, Cafes, and as a dietician in several nursing homes. Carol spent most of her later years in the janitorial profession, and she had her own business for a number of years. She enjoyed bowling, fishing, and seeing the country in her RV. She is survived by special friend, Claudette Rinfret, also Nellie and Finous Fincher, Rodney and Juanita Messick, Curtis and Jamie Mullens, Richard Alexander, and many cousins and more friends than we have room for. She left behind her loyal dog, Bear and Misty, the parrot. A special thanks to Heart to Heart Hospice for their caring attention and especially her nurse, Michelle Nicholson, and her aide, Lashondra. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2012, from 2 to 4 P.M. at Jason's Deli in Longview. Family and friends are invited. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater.
