Graveside services for Carl W. Akins, 57 of Big Sandy will be 3:58 p.m., Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at New Hope Cemetery in Upshur County with Bro. David Thornton, Bro. David Havir and Bro. Jeremy Wilson officiating. Arrangements are under the directions of Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer. Mr. Akins passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2014. Mr. Akins was born on January 21, 1957, in Miami, Florida to Charles Garvis Akins and Cathryn Mildred "Mickie" Bierman Akins. He married Melinda Cook on April 12, 2003, in Upshur County. Mr. Akins attended Ambassador College, was a self-employed furniture maker and a member of Big Sandy Church of God. He is survived by his wife, Melinda Akins of Big Sandy; mother, Mickie Akins; sons and daughters-in-law, Bo & Amanda Akins of Tyler; James and Ashley Henkle of Big Sandy; daughters and son-in-law, Leslie and Garland Harroff of Big Sandy, Mallary Henkle of Big Sandy; brothers, Chip Akins of Point, TX; sisters, Donna Jones, Sue Jones and Elaine Akins all of Big Sandy; seven grandchildren, Allison and Morgan Harroff, Luke and Dante Akins, Calie, Carson and Casie Henkle; numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Akins was preceded in death by his father, Charles Garvis Akins and brother, Buddy Akins. A memorial celebration will be held on Sunday, August 31, 2014 at 3:00 P.M. with meal to follow at the Church of God Big Sandy.
