Funeral services for Mr. Calvin Ray Gosdin, 90, of Como, Texas will be held 2:00 P.M., Wednesday May 15, 2019, at Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gilmer with Mr. Jerry Savage officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Upshur County, Texas.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at League Street Church of Christ in Sulphur Springs from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. and on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, from 1:00 P.M. until the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Calvin Gosdin was born in Hollis Oklahoma on October 18, 1928, to Jewel and Thelma Gosdin. They moved to Texas when he was a baby and he grew up in the Pritchett Community. Calvin attended school in Pritchett and Gladewater. As a young man he worked for Baird’s Bakery in Ft. Worth, Texas.
On June 2, 1946, he married Gertrude Herron and she preceded him in death on July 24, 1981, to this union they had four daughters. For the last fifty years he has worked as a building contractor in Ft. Worth and Sulphur Springs, Texas. He also worked at B.T. Medical Supply in Sulphur Springs from 2009-2016, where he was loved by everyone he came in contact with.
On May 6, 1982, he married his childhood friend Mary Jo Johnson Dobson, who had three children. For the past 37 years, they have made their home in Como, Texas.
Calvin was a member of the League Street Church of Christ in Sulphur Springs.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Gosdin of Como; six daughters, Glenda Nordin, Patty Gaston, Brenda Tubb and her husband, Scott, Cathie Holden and her husband, Bill all of Sulphur Springs, Treesa McLeod and Debbie Jones of Como; son, Danny Dobson and his wife, Barbara of Grand Cane, LA.; 18 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, nine great great grandchildren; three sisters, Joyce Mask of Gilmer, Shirley Rultledge of Paradise and Carolyn Dortch of Colleyville; numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Gosdin was preceded in death by three brothers, Maurice Gosdin, John Gosdin and James Gosdin and one sister, Geraldine Arrington.
