Calvin R. Dean

Services for Calvin R. Dean, 92, of Gilmer, will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at Rosewood Baptist Church, with Rev. Charles Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Rosewood Cemetery. Mr. Dean passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2018, at home surrounded by his family.
Calvin was born on March 8, 1926, in Stratford, Oklahoma to Alvin Alonzo and Rachel Louise Dean. He served his country in the Army during WWII, and married Clovis Virmell Swinney on February 27, 1948 in Texarkana. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this year. Mr. Dean worked after the war as a bricklayer until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by three children; Lonnie Joe Dean, Judy Dean Bloyed, and Patsy Dean Lewis.
Survivors include his wife, Clovis Dean; sons and daughters-in-law, Calvin Wayne and Susan Dean, Jerry Edward and Vickie Dean; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Carl Clark; a sister and brother-in-law, Julia and Kenneth Anthony; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, April 10, at Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home in Gilmer.
